AdBlue and SCR systems: diagnostics and UK road-use rules
AdBlue and SCR systems: diagnostics and UK road-use rules — practical HGV technical guidance from Vehicle Tuning Solutions.
Practical guidance from Vehicle Tuning Solutions, drawing on hands-on HGV mechanical and ECU calibration experience.
What SCR does
Selective catalytic reduction uses AdBlue dosing to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. Faults may involve sensors, pumps, heaters, wiring, dosing systems or related engine controls.
Diagnose before modifying
A warning or countdown does not prove the SCR system itself is faulty. Correct diagnosis should identify the underlying cause and appropriate repair.
Road-use legal position
Removing or disabling emissions controls on a road-going vehicle can make it illegal to use on UK roads. Off-road or export descriptions do not make a modified vehicle legal for road use.
How VTS handles enquiries
Discuss the vehicle, intended use and fault history. Road-use compliance must be assessed separately from any performance calibration.
Technical information is general guidance, not a confirmed specification for your vehicle. Exact ECU compatibility, output and suitability must be checked individually.
